During a trip to Japan, I passed homes in my Kyoto neighborhood renovated to accommodate citrus trees. I began to notice the beauty and range of tree supports, collecting images of trees with crutches, wraps, ropes, hoops, and other devices. I sought out new landscapes across the country during my nine week trip to find new supports. The manipulated backgrounds emphasize the structures and the relationship of trees and people.
